The owners of a Roslindale home wanted to convert an existing 2-car garage into an ADU for an aging parent. To accomplish their goals for spatial needs and structural reinforcement the garage had the roof removed, and one wall demolished, and the exterior block wall received new rebar and concrete along with underpinning the corners to strengthen its foundation. The ADU features vaulted ceilings on the interior, a kitchen/dining/living area, full bathroom, bedroom, and laundry. The new 1-car garage will have storage above. The ADU will have an all-electric heating/cooling system, new windows and a skylight, and insulated exterior walls, roof, and floor slab.
